Thiago Alves vs. Ryo Chonan?

Thiago Alves, fresh off a Submission (Verbal) win at UFN 11 is set to face PRIDE star, and the last man to beat current Champ Anderson Silva, Ryo Chonan, at UFC 78. This according to the Fight Network. Alves got the win in his first fight back from a suspension due to testing positive for diuretics.

Chonan (14-7) is best known for the unbelievable submission he pulled off on the current 185 lb. King Anderson Silva.

Here's a quick peek from the article:

“A star in Japan’s DEEP promotion, Chonan graduated to PRIDE’s roster in 2004 with mixed results. The 28-year-old’s highlight moment in the now defunct promotion came against current UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, when a standing Chonan dramatically scissor-dropped to a heelhook to submit the Brazilian at PRIDE Shockwave 2004 on New Year’s Eve.”

Lets hope this is true...it would be Chonan's first fight at 170 lbs. and would be very exciting. He currently trains at Team Quest with Dan Henderson.
